Where to Stay in Coron: Areas, Hotels & Honest Picks.
Most visitors base themselves in Coron Town — it's where the boats leave from and where the restaurants are. But there are alternatives worth knowing about.
Coron Town Centre: Walking Distance to Everything
The Vibe
The town centre clusters around the municipal pier and main market. You're in the thick of local life—tricycles honking, fishermen unloading the morning catch, Filipinos on motorbikes, carinderias filled with workers. It's loud, chaotic, and utterly authentic. No beachfront, no views, but everything you need is 5–10 minutes on foot.
Budget Guesthouses & Hostels (₱400–₱800)
Coron Diving Resort: Dorm beds ₱400–₱500, private doubles ₱1,000–₱1,200. The location is unbeatable—right at the pier entrance. Rooms are basic (ceiling fan, shared bathroom in dorms). Full dive shop on-site. Good for solo travellers and divers on a budget.
Various family-run guesthouses: Google Maps search for "Coron guesthouses" and you'll find 15+ small operations within a 2-block radius of the market. Rooms ₱500–₱800, owners are friendly and local. Internet can be spotty.
Mid-Range (₱1,200–₱2,500)
Coral Garden Resort: ₱1,200–₱2,000 for a solid AC room with bathroom, some with balconies. Small pool. The staff is helpful and can book tours. Central location near the market and restaurants.
Fleur de Mer Resort: ₱1,500–₱2,500. Slightly more upscale, beachfront views over the bay (not a proper beach, but you see water). Good restaurant on-site. Worth the premium if you want more comfort.
Advice: Town Centre Trade-offs
Stay in town centre if you want walkable access to food, restaurants, diving shops, and the pier (for tours). You'll sacrifice quiet and views. If you want peace and quiet, the outskirts might suit you better.
Town Outskirts: Closer to Maquinit Hot Springs (₱1,000–₱3,000)
The Vibe
A 10–15 minute tricycle ride from the centre, these guesthouses are quieter, with views toward the bay or surrounding hills. You're still in Coron but away from the pier chaos. Many have direct access or walking distance to Maquinit Hot Springs (natural hot water pools nestled in limestone, entrance ₱100–₱200).
Popular Options
Maquinit Hot Springs resort cluster: Several small resorts sit 100–300m from the springs. Rooms ₱1,200–₱2,500. You can soak in natural hot water for free or pay ₱100 to use the resort pool. The springs are a major attraction (especially in cooler months June–Sept), so these locations make sense if that's a must-do.
Outskirts guesthouses with views: Away from the springs, you'll find quieter operations (₱1,000–₱2,000) with views and garden settings. Less touristy, more local.
Advice: Outskirts Trade-offs
Gain quiet and views; lose walkability. Every meal and trip to the market requires a tricycle (₱20–₱30 each way, which adds up). Best if you plan to spend time at hot springs or prefer a quieter base with rental motorbike access to explore the island.
Beachfront: Ocam Ocam Beach Area (₱2,000–₱8,000)
The Reality
Coron has a rocky, not-sandy coastline near the town. Ocam Ocam Beach, about 2km from the centre (₱30–₱40 tricycle ride), is the closest "proper" beach with sand and shallow water safe for swimming. Small beachfront bungalows rent ₱2,000–₱5,000.
The beach itself is narrow, not stunning like Malcapuya or Boracay, but you wake up to water views and can swim before breakfast. Good for couples or travellers wanting beach atmosphere without travelling far.
Which Resorts?
Google search "Ocam Ocam Beach Coron" for beachfront bungalow operators. Most are small, owner-run places. Expect basic rooms with AC, some with verandahs. No frills but honest value.
Island Resorts: Full-Board All-Inclusive (₱8,000–₱25,000+)
Two Seasons Island Resort
On Dimakya Island, about 20 minutes by boat from the main pier. All-inclusive: room, meals, basic activities. Rooms ₱12,000–₱20,000 per night. Excellent for couples wanting a resort bubble; poor for solo travellers or those wanting to mix with other backpackers. You'll need to arrange boat transport to town if you want to leave the resort, which defeats the purpose of "all-inclusive."
Club Paradise
Also island-based, similar all-inclusive model. Rooms ₱15,000–₱25,000+ per night. Target market is mid-range package tourists. Diving and water activities are included.
Honest Advice: Island Resorts
Island resorts work if: you want a couples' retreat with minimal decisions, you're content eating the same food for 3 days, and you don't care about meeting other travellers or exploring local culture. If you want to actually experience Coron—eating fresh seafood at the market, diving with independent operators, chatting with other backpackers—stay in town and take day trips. You'll save money, eat better, and have more agency over your days.
Budget Breakdown by Accommodation Type
- Backpacker dorm (town centre): ₱400–₱600/night. Shared bathrooms, basic rooms, but walkable to everything.
- Budget private room (town centre or outskirts): ₱800–₱1,500/night. AC, private bathroom, small but clean.
- Mid-range private room: ₱1,500–₱3,000/night. AC, hot water, maybe a balcony or pool access. Good value.
- Beachfront bungalow: ₱2,000–₱5,000/night. Oceanview, private, more space. Still simple, but closer to resort feel.
- Island resort (all-inclusive): ₱8,000–₱25,000+/night. Everything included, no choices, no local interaction.
Where to Book
Direct Booking (Best Rates)
Search "Coron guesthouse" or "Coron resort" on Google Maps. Call or WhatsApp directly (most have numbers). Ask for walk-in rates (sometimes 10–15% cheaper than OTA prices). Confirm in advance; guesthouses fill fast in peak season.
Online Booking Platforms
Booking.com and Agoda list most places but add 10–20% commission. Worth it if you want guarantees and cancellation policies; not worth it if you can book direct.
Insider Tip
Book your first 1–2 nights before arriving, then stay put if you like the place. Changing guesthouses multiple times wastes time. By the second night, you'll know if you want to stay longer or move. Most places offer better rates for multi-night stays anyway (₱1,500/night becomes ₱1,300/night if you stay 3+ nights).
Seasonal Availability & Booking Timing
Peak Season (Dec–March)
Book 4–6 weeks ahead. Prices are 20–30% higher. Walk-ins face full guesthouses, especially in Jan–Feb. Mid-range rooms (₱2,000–₱2,500) might not have availability.
Shoulder Season (April, May, Nov)
Book 2–3 weeks ahead. Good value. Rooms are available most days. Weather is still decent. Sweet spot for booking.
Wet Season (June–Oct)
Book 1–2 weeks ahead. Prices drop 30–50%. Rooms are easy to find. Weather is rainy and seas are rougher, but fewer tourists. July–August are cheapest months.
Town centre: Budget ₱400–₱800 (walkable to pier, market, restaurants; loud). Mid-range ₱1,200–₱2,500. Outskirts (hot springs area): ₱1,000–₱3,000 (quieter, need tricycle for everything). Beachfront (Ocam Ocam): ₱2,000–₱5,000 (narrow beach, scenic). Island resorts: ₱8,000–₱25,000+ (all-inclusive, isolated). Best booking strategy: Search Google Maps directly for guesthouses, call/WhatsApp for best rates. Book first 1–2 nights before arriving. Book 4–6 weeks ahead in peak season (Dec–Mar), 1–2 weeks for shoulder/wet.
